Beach Boys

Beach Boys, 2023, Acrylic and Spray Paint, 24×30, NFS

I live in Colorado now, but I’m from New Jersey. Growing up; I went to the beach every chance I got. These days, the Rocky Mountains follow me wherever I go. They are a superb companion, but I think about the coast often.

I have fond memories of being covered in sand. Where else can you go to get completely buried for fun? The beach is the best building site, and treasure hunting ground, of any other place in the entire universe. Thank goodness for buckets and shovels.

The most outstanding aspect to the beach, of course, is that you get to go swimming in an endless body of water. Never miss an opportunity to jump in the ocean. (These are words to live by.) There are countless ways to swim and play in the ocean; including splashing in a tidal pool. For the truly salty at heart, you might even take a dip in the ocean in lieu of a shower.

While you most closely associate me with winter landscape paintings; I had to take this midsummer day to remind you that I am also quite fond of an endless summer.

This painting was born from a client photograph. I just loved the composition of the picture. It’s about the kids, but it’s about the beach too. I was able to use my favorite spray paint stencil technique in the depiction of the scene in paint. The sky and its reflection are my signature bright blue. They contrast wonderfully with the detailed strokes of kids, water, seagull, and sand.

Summer is chill, but it’s also bright and busy and fun. I hope your summer is still in full swing, and you are spending it doing all the things you love. Don’t forget to get salty and/or sandy at least once.
