I live in Colorado with my husband and three (elementary age) kids. Of all the things I have experienced in my life; it is being a mother to them that has made me stronger, smarter, and more appreciative. Children are powerful creatures; and we get to be children for such a short amount of time. Of all living things; kids pack the most faith, positivity, creativity, strength, endurance, compassion, and laughter. My three bring immeasurable quality to our family.
I have a degree in Art and Art History. I have a lifestyle centered on finding reasons to make art and encouraging others to discover their own genius. Painting is my preferred method of expression. I like my art to be energetic. I strive to poetically combine and contrast color and texture to tell my stories. Typically I work from photographs. Time and again I go back to photographs of my kids, or things I was doing with my kids. I translate the image of these photographs onto canvas using a variety of paints in multiple layers. In this particular piece, the sky and snow were made from a stencil and colored with 4 layers of spray paints. The remaining aspects of the composition are 2-3 layers of acrylic paint.
Groms, the painting before you now, is a captured moment in time of our family doing what we love most. Snowboarding. Every day that we spend together on the mountain is epic. It is here that I watch my kids grow and am inspired to push my own limitations.
The Sky is Blue. The Ground is White. The Possibilities are Endless.
The painting, Groms, will be on show at 40 West Arts Gallery, located at 6501 W Colfax Ave, Lakewood, Colorado. The Art Show, titled The Power of Three, is on display May 3rd-June 2nd, 2024. The opening reception is May 3rd, in conjunction with the local First Friday event. See you there!
Are you completely inspired by your kids, like me? You should let me paint them for you!
