Running Sneakers

Running Sneakers

I have finished another painting in the series for the book I have been working on. For the sake of the book, part of me feels like I should be keeping these illustrations a secret. But the other part of me gets excited when I finish a new piece of work and I am eager to share.

As is typical, with this painting I worked from a photograph. Sneakers are a new subject matter for me. Most running sneakers today are quite colorful with bold patterns. Because of this, they were fun for me to paint and I was able to work within the color palette that I am most comfortable.  Also, I enjoyed the perspective of this composition. The three shoes in the middle are in focus, but the rest of the shoes become more blurred the farther out from the center they are. This is the first time I have ever painted in that style. I’m happy to now be familiar with this technique. I look forward to using it in the future to highlight main features of future paintings.

It is my plan to continue to share these illustrations with you as they develop. If you’re interested in learning more about the book you can visit asilentcure.org.
